Jousia Piha
ICT engineer and cybersecurity master's student | Language models and self-hosted AI
About
My name is Jousia Piha. I'm an ICT engineer and cybersecurity master's student at the University of Turku. My research experience with the TurkuNLP research group includes Finnish and multilingual language-model evaluation. I also work with Linux servers, containers, and self-hosted AI.
I'm currently looking for a master's thesis collaboration on the practical deployment and cybersecurity of open-weight language models and AI agents in organizations.

Research with TurkuNLP
At the University of Turku's TurkuNLP research group, I worked on evaluation tasks, research datasets, and experiments on Finnish supercomputers.
- FIN-bench-v2 paper: I contributed benchmark tasks, dataset preparation and validation, and Finnish language-model evaluation experiments.
- HPLT paper: I contributed language-model evaluation work to the HPLT collaboration and co-authored its ACL 2025 paper on multilingual datasets.

Servers and other pursuits
Before my engineering studies, I trained as a copywriter, which has left me a rather versatile practitioner of technology and communications. In addition to the general academic wandering and wondering, I am capable, for example, of applying AI, producing publishable texts and websites, installing and maintaining servers for various purposes, or even cabling and setting up a secure local network with all its devices from the ground up.
The most important of my leisure pursuits is undoubtedly server administration in my "home lab," where I also experiment with generative AI. I engage in 3D modeling with Blender and Fusion and print my creations with my own Bambu Lab X1C 3D printer. More ancient but still dear hobbies of mine are drawing and writing fiction.
